Yesway, a new chain of convenience stores, is establishing itself in Iowa with hopes of becoming a staple in small towns, starting with 21 former Kum & Go stores it is acquiring.

The new company plans to open a headquarters in West Des Moines in the next week or two, Brian Trout, Yesway’s vice president of operations, said. The company wants to open 600 to 1,000 stores in small to medium-sized markets in the next five years across the Midwest, he said.

The company will open its first three former Kum & Go stores in Mason City this week and plans to complete the acquisition of the remaining 18 stores in the next four weeks.
